Police say two cars crashed on Wadestown Road just after 2pm and one of those cars struck the worker.

One of the drivers has also been taken to hospital.

Wadestown Road is expected to be closed for some time between Lytton Street and Blackbridge Road and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

A spate of pedestrians hit by vehicles in central Wellington has prompted the police to release a warning.

One involved a bus on Manners Street yesterday afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Dean Gorrie said some have resulted in life-changing injuries and he has urged pedestrians to put their phone away, pay attention to their surroundings, and be patient.

He said there was a legal obligation for people to cross at controlled pedestrian crossings if they were within 20 metres of one.
