Dunedin will today host a visit by the leader of the Scottish city of Edinburgh, as the sister cities revive their relationship.
The Lord Provost, Donald Wilson, is in New Zealand for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo show.
Dunedin's mayor, Dave Cull, visited Edinburgh last year.
He said the relationship with Dunedin's "mother city" in Scotland was deep and warm, although it had become muted.
He said it had noticeably increased in the past 12 months, with a new focus on artistic and cultural exchanges.
Edinburgh was the first city to be designated a Unesco City of Literature, and that status was also gained by Dunedin last year.
