The Government says four new schools will be built using a Public Private Partnership. Two will be built in Canterbury, one in Queenstown and one in Auckland.
An invitation for expressions of interest will be issued for the design, construction, financing, and maintenance of the four schools.
Education Minister Hekia Parata said on Tuesday if that process is successful and the PPP goes ahead, it is estimated the cost of construction and maintenance for the project will be more than $200 million.
Ms Parata she says the use of a PPP could deliver savings of 2 percent to 8 percent over traditional procurement.
The schools will be Aranui Community School and Rolleston Secondary School in greater Christchurch, Wakatipu Secondary School's new site in Queenstown and a new school in Auckland yet to be confirmed.
