The National Party has announced its candidate for Mount Roskill as Parmjeet Parmar.
Dr Parmar was selected to run in the September election by a meeting of local party members on Friday night.
The incumbent MP for the electorate is the Labour Party's Phil Goff.
A biologist and mother-of-two, Dr Parmar has been serving as a Families Commissioner but is standing down in order to campaign.
Labour called for her to resign as a commissioner in March when she confirmed her intention to seek a National Party nomination, saying it compromised her neutrality.
Dr Parmar is also a community representative on the Film and Video Labelling Body, and is the chairperson of the New Zealand Sikh Women's Association.
