NZTrio presents Fantastique, a chamber music programme featuring violinist Amalia Hall and pianist Somi Kim. For this performance, the ensemble is joined by guest cellist Callum Hall. The concert explores a diverse range of styles, moving from impressionistic depictions of nature to intense youthful expressions and fused cultural melodies.

The repertoire begins with Joaquín Turina’s Círculo, a work that paints the cycle of a day, followed by Dmitri Shostakovich’s early work, Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor. The programme continues with Chen Yi’s Tibetan Tunes and the world premiere of Angelus, a new commission by New Zealand composer John Psathas. The concert concludes with César Franck’s Piano Trio No. 1 in F sharp minor, a piece characterised by its dramatic shifts between intimacy and explosive power.
