Police in Hamilton making use of social media to solve crime

15:57 pm on 6 August 2013

Police in Hamilton say social media sites are becoming a valuable tool in solving burglaries.

Items stolen from a Claudelands property during the weekend have been recovered after the owner made their own enquiries on Facebook and identified some of their property and a possible suspect.

The police say that information was added to their own inquiries and the alleged offender and location of the stolen property was identified.

Raids were carried out on three properties where the stolen items were recovered and three people arrested.

The police say they are frequently using social media to help investigate crime.
