Submissions open on proposed irrigation schemes

06:40 am on 10 September 2012

Canterbury Regional Council has notified a resource consent application for an irrigation scheme in North Canterbury which could provide water to 60,000 hectares of farmland.

The Waitohi Irrigation and Hydro scheme, which has been developed over the past two years, would result in two dams on the Hurunui river and two on the Waitohi river.

The council will accept public submissions on the proposal until Monday, 5 November.
