The world champions are odds-on favourites to win gold, but as these Games have shown there are no guarantees.
Their final is due to begin at 1.44am NZT.
The majority of New Zealand's rowing crew are in action overnight, with the women's pair of Rebecca Scown and Genevieve Behrent, the lightweight double sculls and lightweight mens four all competing.
The New Zealand camp would be looking for a morale-boosting win tonight, after a disappointing day five at the games.
New Zealand's male golfers Danny Lee and Ryan Fox tee it up in Rio, in the first time golf has been played at the Olympics in 112 years.
Lee is first off just after 10.30pm while Fox has an afternoon tee time in Rio.
New Zealand's sailors are also back in action, women's 470 crew Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie will be looking to make up on lost ground after being disqaulified from the first race, pushing them to 10th on the ladder.
Also competing are the men's 470 crew Daniel Wilcox and Paul Snow Hansen who're in third, while Josh Junior remains in contention in the men's Finn.
Racing gets underway from 4am.
New Zealand swimmer Luaren Boyle is back in the pool for her favoured event - the women's 800 metre freestyle heats, the action begins at 4.20am.
Luuka Jones will be looking to build on Mike Dawson's 10th place finish in the men's Kayak Slalom final when she takes to the white water in the women's final at 6am.
Closing out the morning's action is the track cycling team - the world champion men's sprint team of Ethan Mitchell, Eddie Dawkins and Sam Webster are in action from 8am in the first round while the finals start just after 9am.
