The Civil Aviation Authority in Papua New Guinea is threatening to shut down Buka Airport in Bougainville if its managers fail to keep people and animals off the runway.
The Post Courier newspaper quotes the CAA senior airworthiness inspector Lei Do'o as saying the Air Niugini plane into Buka early on Tuesday morning nearly collided with a stray dog on its first attempt to land.
Five minutes later the F28 aircraft had to abort landing again when a man and his 12-year-old son walked across the airstrip.
Mr Do'o says school children walked across the tarmac in Kavieng, and he'd received similar complaints from throughout the country.
