CNMI reconsiders rejected applicant for casino license

15:30 pm on 19 May 2014

A Hong Kong company has been thrown a lifeline and can still apply for an exclusive casino licence in the Northern Marianas.

Late last week the Lottery Commission reconsidered its earlier decision to reject Marianas Stars Entertainment Inc's application to develop a

US$2 billion casino resort on Saipan.

However, the commission's approval of Marianas Stars' request for reconsideration has two conditions - first that $30 million has to be deposited by this afternoon.

The company also has to present its business plan tomorrow morning.

The company says they are happy the commission has reversed its original decision following its alleged failure to make the deposit by the deadline earlier this month.

Marianas Stars Entertainment again joins Best Sunshine International Ltd. in vying for a license.
