The dengue epidemic declared in New Caledonia in December is officially over.
This was announced by health authorities who say that since the start of the year more than 3800 people contracted dengue type 2.
Of them 363 needed to be admitted to hospital.
A 43-year-old woman, who was a senior French police officer, and an eight-year-old girl died of the mosquito borne disease.
Despite the end of the epidemic, the authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant.
In February, dengue type 2 spread to Wallis and Futuna as well as French Polynesia.
