At least two charities helping teenagers and children are about to close because their funding has run out.
The Rainbow Umbrella Charitable Trust, an afterschool care group for children with disabilities in Napier, will close on Thursday if it can't find emergency funding after its Ministry of Social Development funding ran out.
The Discovery Foundation in Auckland, which runs residential educational courses for teenagers, also faces closure and has turned to the Give A Little fundraising website for money after two major grants were discontinued.
Both services say competition for grants is so intense it is almost impossible to operate without Government funding.
