France's overseas minister Annick Girardin has arrived in French Polynesia for a week-long stay aimed at dealing with environmental issues.
She is also expected to help prepare president Emmanuel Macron's visit in April, when he will host the next One Planet Summit.
On arrival in Tahiti, Ms Girardin was met by top politicians as well as demonstrators who are opposed to France's planned pension reform.
The Opposition has criticised the timing of her visit, which comes only weeks before the municipal elections.
