The Port of Tauranga is about to purchase a seventh ship-to-shore gantry crane for its Sulphur Point fleet as container volumes grow.

This purchase is on top of $150 million being spent on developing the port, which includes a 170 metre wharf extension.

The port is also planning to expand its rail terminal capacity as it's becoming a central location for importers and exporters.
