Teen arrested over Hamilton dairy robbery

A 17-year-old man has been arrested over the aggravated robbery of a Hamilton dairy last week.

Shop owner Sandip Patel received cuts to his hands and head when he was attacked with a machete at his Emm Jay dairy in Hamilton East.

Police carried out a number of searches and arrested the accused teenager this morning.

He was due to appear in Hamilton District Court today charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated wounding.

Police are still looking for a 16-year-old male in connection with the robbery.

More than 70 dairy and convenience store owners met in Hamilton on Sunday to vent their frustrations over a spate of violent robberies.

They demanded the government fund cigarette vending machines in shops to help discourage robberies.
