Fiji police say an Australian national alleged to have killed his wife in Suva on Tuesday had attempted to take his own life.

Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Henry Lusaka John has been hospitalised.
She said they were awaiting health officials' approval to question Mr John.
The couple worked for international organisations based in Suva.
The United Nations office in Suva confirmed the victim Jennifer Ann Downes was one of their employees.
