The Tai Hauauru electorate had previously been held by outgoing Maori Party MP Tariana Turia, who worked in partnership with the previous National Government.

Labour's Adrian Rurawhe beat Maori Party contender Chris McKenzie to win Te Tai Hauauru on Saturday night.

Grace Taiaroa said the way politics and the Government is operating at the moment, she does not think he will be able to change anything any time soon.

Ms Taiaroa said people who have brought about significant change are those who have been in Parliament for a long time.
