Rugby

Flying Fijians flanker Lekima Tagitagivalu is a nominee for the International Rugby Players Association Men's 15s Try of the Year.

His try against the Wallabies in June has given him the nomination for the award, against three other players.

The list includes All Black Tupou Vaa'i, for his try agains France in July.

The winner will be announced at the World Rugby awards ceremony on 25 November.

Football

The finalists for the Melanesian Cup football tournament in Port Moresby have been decided, following semi-finals on Thursday.

In the women's competition, Fiji will face Papua New Guinea in the clash for the top title.

Fiji defeated Vanuatu 3-1, while PNG proved too strong for Solomon Islands, winning 5-0.

In the men's semifinals, defending champions PNG beat Fiji 2-nil, and Solomon Islands pipped Vanuatu 2-1.

The finals will take place on Saturday.

Futsal

The Waikato Rapids have qualified for the Oceania Futsal Men's Champions League final with a round-robin game to spare.

The team defeated defeating defending champions AS PTT 5-2 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Vanuatu's Southern Legions FC stormed into finals contention with a 13-2 win over Gulf Komara FC.

Mataks FC kept Suva FC out of the final race, with a 5-1 beating in Thursday's third game.

Matches continue on Friday.

Sevens

Another Fijian heritage player has broken into the New Zealand men's sevens team.

Kele Lasaqa, who featured for Bay of Plenty in New Zealand's NPC this season, is flying to Dubai with the Kiwis, for the opening tournament of the 2025/2026 HSBC Sevens Series.

He joins fellow Fijian heritage player Akuila Rokolisoa in the 13-member squad.

Meanwhile, senior players like Dylan Collier, Sione Molia and Tone Ng Shiu have all been retained in the touring team.

Rugby

Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson says their pre-season training is on target, despte the absence of players who are currently on tour with the Flying Fijians in Spain.

FBC reported Jackson saying the focus has been on developing the locally based players' fitness, ahead of the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Flying Fijians players will join the Drua's pre-season program next week.
