In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the person returned the positive result on Wednesday and is currently in isolation.

An investigation is underway to determine if this infection originated from the community or the facility.

The worker has been undergoing regular testing and their role did not involve direct contact with returnees.

The result from whole genome sequencing is expected later today.

The ministry is encouraging any symptomatic people who live in, or have visited, the Lakes district, particularly in Rotorua, to get tested, even if you are vaccinated. You must also stay home until you return a negative test result.

Testing and vaccination centre locations nationwide can be found on the Healthpoint website.
