Firefighters are confident they are in control of a Marlborough fire after fighting it for three days.
About 120 people and seven helicopters are battling the blaze in Wairau Valley, which has already burned through 1200 hectares of forestry and farmland.
The region's principal rural fire officer, Richard McNamara, said the perimeter dug by firefighters has held today, despite strong winds.
Extensive thermal imaging will take place later in the week to ensure there's no danger of flare-ups.
A restricted fire season is in force in Marlborough.
