The French driver Sebastien Ogier has posted his first world rally championship win, holding off an attack by his famous countryman Sebastien Loeb to win the Rally of Portugal.

The 26-year-old Citroen driver, who narrowly missed out on the NZ title earlier this month, edged out Loeb by 7.9 seconds.

Ogier has jumped from fourth to second in the championship standings on 88 points, but still 38 points behind Loeb.
