Nelson-based airline Originair has announced it will be adding direct flights between Nelson and New Plymouth to its schedule.
Originair will initially offer eight flights a week between the two cities, starting in late September.
Originair managing director Robert Inglis said the airline was offering the flights in response to demand from business and leisure passengers.
Mr Inglis said currently travel between the two cities involved lengthy stopovers in Auckland or Wellington, but the new service would take just 50 minutes.
Originair currently offers a service between Nelson and Palmerston North which started in 2015.
