The mayor of Christchurch says she's delighted to hear the owner of Gun City is reconsidering signage on his store, which may have unintentionally referenced the March 15 mosque attacks.
Lianne Dalziel met with David Tipple on the weekend, after raising concerns with him about the sign on a new Gun City store in Sockburn.
The store, located on the corner of Main South Rd and Blenheim Rd, is visible to most traffic entering the city from the south, and features the Gun City logo in large font, on three sides.
When it opened, nearby residents told RNZ they were unhappy with the location and visibility of the store, which took "the shine off the area".
Ms Dalziel said she contacted Mr Tipple, wanting to meet with him in person to discuss the regulatory environment around his signage.
When they met, she said he was aware of people's concerns and was already working on a new design, which he hoped would address the issue.
Ms Dalziel said the new sign would focus on hunting in the great outdoors instead.
"I felt this was a good compromise and a positive step in dealing with the signage issue," she said.
