Chaudhry trial goes ahead following Fiji court ruling

15:10 pm on 3 April 2014

The trial of the Fiji Labour Party leader and former prime minister Mahendra Chaudhry is to continue following a ruling by a Fiji court.

The Fiji media report the High Court in Suva has rejected his application for no case to answer on charges of money laundering.

Mr Chaudhry's counsel had argued there was insufficient evidence from the state to charge the politican who is facing three charges of breaching the Exchange Control Act..

The Fiji Village website reports the application was made yesterday after the prosecution called in a Reserve Bank official as its only witness.

Mr Chaudhry has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
