New projects including podcasts hosted by broadcast veteran Kim Hill and children's entertainer Suzy Cato have 2024 shaping up to be an "outstanding" year of content for RNZ, its chief executive says.

Chief executive and Editor-in-Chief Paul Thompson said RNZ was focused on telling stories that matter to people in Aotearoa, across digital, news and radio.

"We're excited about what we will offer audiences this year, and the addition of some great programmes and talent that will help us connect with even more New Zealanders."

Hill's podcast will be released later in the year, while Cato will have a podcast version of her radio programme Suzy & Friends.

A video intervew series with RNZ's Guyon Espiner as well as a video and audio podcast with Anika Moa will launch in February.

Mihingarangi Forbes and Julian Wilcox will broadcast live on RNZ National for Waitangi Day.

The 50th year or RNZ's much loved daily birdcall will be celebrated this year on Morning Report and rnz.co.nz from 5 February.

April will be history month for RNZ, with Untold Pacific History beginning on 10 April and NZ Wars: Stories of Tauranga Moana coming out on 29 April.

The Detail will also return in 2024, as well as new projects including Voice of Tangaroa, a collaboration between Our Changing World and NZ Geographic; Nellie's Baby, by Kirsty Johnston from RNZ's In Depth team.
