May by-election for PNG's Pomio

19:29 pm on 12 February 2015

Papua New Guinea's electoral commissioner has announced Pomio district in East New Britain Province will go to the polls in May to elect a new MP.

The seat was left vacant almost a year ago following the jailing of Paul Tiensten for misappropriation.

The Post Courier reports electoral commissioner Andrew Trawen saying polling will start on May 9th and end May 22nd.

Mr Trawen says the by-election will cost 1.3 million US dollars.
