A campaign has been launched to look at whether New Zealanders should have their summer holidays at a different time.
United Future leader Peter Dunne said he wanted to hear if people would like to have their holidays later, to make the most of warmer and sunnier weather.
"Our weather patterns are changing and we are increasingly seeing our dreams of a sunny barbecue at a beach turn into keeping the kids at home while weather bombs explode around the country", he said.
"Then, come February when the sun comes out, we all send the kids back to school, to hot and stuffy classrooms."
He said that was not the kind of Kiwi summer many people wanted.
Mr Dunne has posted an online petition to determine public support for moving the summer holiday period.
