A man was hit by a train in the Auckland suburb of Avondale this afternoon.

The incident took place at the station on Layard St shortly before 5pm, said a police spokesperson
The man was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Auckland Transport said the incident has closed St Judes Rd near the train crossing and traffic is being diverted down Layard St and Donegal St.
Traffic is reportedly heavy in the area.
