Homeward bound American Samoans exempt from Apia quarantine

14:25 pm on 5 August 2020

American Samoan residents travelling through Samoa to Fiji on a repatriation flight will not be quarantined in Apia, but must depart for the territory as soon as possible.

The Samoa government amended State of Emergency orders to say the travellers were not subject to quarantine but still had to recieve medical clearance.

The travellers are able to fly from Fiji as part of a chartered flight organised by a company who also has workers stranded in Apia.

Passengers bound for American Samoa include students studying in Fiji and returning doctors.

The latest amendment would also allow for the repatriation of Tokelauans returning from New Zealand.

Repatriation flights from New Zealand are scheduled to operate every three weeks and cargo flights will fly weekly until October.

Also allowed under the amended SOE is permission for the Huanan Fishery vessel to enter Samoan waters and dock at the Matautu wharf.
