The police presence in Pātea has been scaled back following a report of a person being unlawfully at a property in the Taranaki township.

Police said the Armed Offenders Squad had helped local police to safely resolve the incident at Hadfield Street in Pātea.

Officers were called to the property around 3.50am on Wednesday.

No one was believed to be injured, police said.

Police said a small number of staff were continuing to make inquiries.
