London marathon stars will all be there

A decision to hire a private jet for $240,000 to enable African runners to compete in the London marathon has been vindicated with organisers confirming that no elite athlete is likely to miss this weekend's race.

The jet was one of several means used to transport runners who could have been stranded due to the disruptions to flights this week caused by ash from an Iceland volcano.

Race organiser David Bedford says a total of $320,000 had been spent on emergency transport.
