Flooding hits Fiji's west again

08:57 am on 30 March 2012

Sixty-one people from Korovuto in Fiji are sheltering at an evacuation centre after heavy overnight rain in the Western Division.

The Nadi District Office administrator Jone Koroi says 20 houses are seven feet under water.

Fiji Live reports him as saying 40 children and 21 adults are sheltering at the Korovuto hall.

DISMAC and Nadi District Office officials are currently monitoring the situation.

Earlier Fiji's Meteorological Service had issued a flash flood warning for all low lying areas as a shallow tropical depression was located west-southwest of Nadi this morning.
