Police say they were called to a Porirua pool after reports people had been affected by chemicals, but a pool spokesperson says the children are fine and there is no issues with chemicals.

A police spokesperson said officers were at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua on Wednesday afternoon, along with with Fire and Emergency and an ambulance, after being called at 1.20pm.

Arena spokesperson Helen Brooks said some children at the pool had said they had felt sick.

Brooks said ambulance staff, that happened to be at the complex for an unrelated reason, checked the children over and they were fine.

They have since left the facility.

Wellington Free Ambulance said it assessed 17 patients at the scene. None required further treatment.

Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency staff tested the chemicals in the pool and found no issues.
