Anti-corruption groups want PNG PM to attend rally in capital

Anti-corruption groups in Papua New Guinea are holding a public forum in Port Moresby today.

Organisers say there is growing frustration among the general public over the lack of action by the Government in addressing corruption.

Rallying support through social media pages, supporters are asking the Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, to come to the event and explain the allegations that have caused a media crackdown in recent weeks.

The arrest of prominent lawyer Paul Paraka, over allegations he received over 26 million US dollars from the Government, has been reported freely, but after media published allegations by the opposition leader Belden Namah that Mr O'Neill is implicated, the Government has warned outlets.

It has also deported the media advisor of the PNG Sustainable Development Fund, Mark Davis, after reports criticising the Government's takeover of the fund.

Belden Namah has confirmed he will attend the rally at Jack Pidik Park.
