There have been several house and bush fires so far this month causing nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of damage.

Radio Tonga reported a recent fire at Takuilau College destroyed the school's new sports equipment.

The Deputy Fire Commissioner Sinamoni Kauvaka advised parents to warn their children about playing with matches, mosquito coils, fire crackers, candles and electronic devices.
