A landslip has killed at least 36 people in a remote village in Yunnan province, south-western China.
The slip engulfed 16 homes in the village of Gaopo, according to a state-run website.
Emergency teams have so far rescued two injured people from the debris, the ABC reports.
Conditions are difficult for rescuers, as unusually low temperatures have been experienced in the area in recent weeks, with China suffering what authorities have called its coldest winter in 28 years.
Yunnan, which borders Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, is a relatively impoverished area of China, where rural houses are often cheaply constructed.
