Holders of Maori domain names are being given the chance to use a macron in their website addresses.

Waatea News reports macrons - which indicate long vowels - have recently been added to the New Zealand registry of Internet addresses.

Domain name commissioner Debbie Monaghan says people who want their Maori vowels to conform to the grammatical standard before Maori Language Week have until 6 July to apply.
