Softball New Zealand says it will be pushing for more funding after the Black Sox team won the world championship for the sixth time.

New Zealand beat Venezuela 4-1 at Rosedale Park in Auckland on Sunday.

Softball New Zealand says it gets about $450,000 in annual funding from High Performance Sport New Zealand for the team.

General manager Dane Dougan said finding sponsorship is a challenge and more money is needed.

He said the funding model is based on team success, so he is confident the Black Sox can secure more investment .

Mr Dougan said about 33,000 New Zealanders play softball.
