A police spokesperson said a car was used to smash into the dairy on Oxford Street in Levin at 1.30am.
The car was road spiked by police a short time later but continued on, smashing through several fences in the showgrounds before it was abandoned.
The Oxford Dairy spokesperson, Vidhya Milan, said the group of offenders stole thousands of dollars worth of tobacco before running away.
"They looked like they were in a gang, about four or five of them including a women", said Milan.
"They stole the till, with cash inside it and thousands of dollars worth of vape and tobacco products".
She said they had just returned to Auckland to find their store smashed.
