Cairns flies to London to meet Police and ICC

16:44 pm on 24 May 2014

The former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns is on his way to England to be interviewed about the latest match-fixing allegations.

Cairns has vehemently denied any involvement in corruption but believes he is the person alleged to be Player X - the match-fixing ringleader mentioned by former team-mates Lou Vincent and Brendon McCullum.

Cairns' lawyer confirmed to the New Zealand Herald that he's heading to London for a meeting with the Metropolitan Police.

Lawyer Aaron Lloyd says Cairns is to conclude the interview he started with the Met and is also hoping to meet with the ICC anti-corruption unit.

International Cricket Council chief executive Dave Richardson has told Radio Sport that he expects the inquiry to be wrapped up in a matter of weeks.
