Carbon dioxide plant for Marsden Pt

22:39 pm on 27 June 2014

Australian gas and chemical company BOC is to build a $40 million carbon dioxide plant at Marsden Point in Northland.

The company plans to lease the land for the plant and buy the waste carbon dioxide from the New Zealand Refining Company.

It will then purify the gas for sale to industries including dairy, wine, pulp and paper and horticulture.

The plant will employ about 50 people during construction and should be operational by the end of next year.

The company said it would cut carbon dioxide emissions from the refinery by more than 50,000 thousand tonnes a year, or about 6 percent.
