Police have hit out at a drink driver caught speeding through central Dunedin.
The man will appear in court this week after he recorded a breath-alcohol level of 848 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath - more than three times the legal limit.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen says officers spotted a Caldina driving at approximately 100 kilometres an hour in George Street - the main street of the city and a 50 kilometre zone - at 8pm last night.
He said officers thought the driver was going to flee, but he pulled over and breath-testing showed the 26 year old was well over the limit.
Mr Dinnissen described the behaviour as ludicrous.
The man will face dangerous driving charges.
