The Bougainville Heritage Foundation says it's essential for future generations that there is an archive preserving Bougainville's culture.
The Foundation runs a Haus Stori, or library, in Arawa.
Its manager Allan Gioni is building an archive of written, oral and artistic accounts of the autonomous Papua New Guinea region's cultural heritage.
Mr Gioni says it remains difficult to connect young generations with Bougainville's cultural heritage, but that the work is too important to neglect.
He spoke to Johnny Blades.
