Confusion has continued to surround polling in the Fiji general election, even as it passed the half-way mark on the fourth day of polling yesterday.
The Daily Post reports that more than 1,000 people were turned away from several polling stations across the country because there were no ballot papers.
Others could not vote because officials did not have the electoral rolls for the relevant constituencies.
The Post quotes sources in the Elections Office as saying advertisements will be placed to inform voters who were turned away to vote at the same polling stations.
Several hundred ethnic Indian voters in Sigatoka could not vote because their names were found in the electoral roll for the Nadi Rural Indian constituency.
In the Nadi area, more than 300 voters were told to make their way to another polling station because there were no ballot boxes for their two constituencies at their usual polling station.
And in Lautoka, a ballot box sealed at the end of voting gave way, scattering completed ballot papers on the ground.
