Auckland have withstood a fightback from Otago to win their provincial rugby match 35-29, while Manawatu dominated Northland 42-17.

At Eden Park, Charles Piutau, Mitch Kaprik and Akira Ioane scored first half tries for the home side to take a 27-14 half-time lead.

The Otago winger Naulia Dawai, who had dotted down in the first half, crossed the line twice more for a hat-trick as the Razorbacks mounted their comeback.

In the 51st minute, George Moala scored a bonus point try for Auckland, before Otago's Jack Wilson did the same 10 minutes later.

The difference between the two sides was in the goal kicking.

Auckland's Simon Hickey landed three penalties and three conversions while Otago's Fletcher Smith could only manage three penalties.

In Palmerston North, Manawatu scored three first half tries to Semisi Masirewa, Nathan Tudreu and Heiden Bedwell-Curtis.

Northland's Highlander Dan Pryor crossed the line just before half-time when his side trailed 21-7.

In the second half, Nathan Tudreu scored his second before Michael Ala'alatoa and Valentino Mapapalangi notched tries five and six for the Turbos.

In the 61st minute Dave Thomas crossed for Northland's second which did little to negate the embarrasing 42-17 final score.
