Solomons PM blames companies for Rennell disaster

16:04 pm on 8 March 2019

The Solomon Islands' caretaker prime minister is defending his government's reaction to an unfolding environmental disaster, pinning the blame on the companies involved.

It's a month since the Solomon Trader ran aground in a World Heritage Area in Rennell, unleashing at least 100 tonnes of oil into the marine reserve.

Now, Rick Hou is threatening to pull the licences of the companies involved.

Jamie Tahana reports.
