Police and the office of the Auditor General in Solomon Islands have been collaborating over the past three weeks to crack down on bogus claim beneficiaries who recieved compensation money for property damged during the ethnic tensions.
The Government in July 2001 under the leadership of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, obtained the 25-Million US dollars loan from the EXIM Bank of Taiwan for compensation.
The Government at that time made it clear that the maximum payout for any claim was 10-thousand US Dollars however because of conflict of interest those administering the loaned money did not adhere to that Government decision.
Among those thought to have benefited substantially from the EXIM Bank loan are politicians, government officials and former militants.
