Firefighters plucked four people from the roof of a burning building in South Auckland this morning.
The fire broke out in flats above the main shopping centre in Bairds Road in Otara this morning.
Firefighters used aerial appliances with ladders to rescue four girls.
They were not injured, and neighbours said they had been sleeping on the roof of the flats, which are above a clothes shop.
Windows of the flat are broken and the police are still examining the scene.
The blaze did not spread to adjoining buildings, or to shops beneath the second-floor flat.
