A large fire burning in the Ka Whata Tu O Rakihouia Conservation Park in the Clarence Valley near Kaikōura is now contained.
Fire and Emergency were called to the blaze shortly after 6pm yesterday.
A spokesperson says five helicopters are still working on the 400 hectare blaze which is now under control.
They are expected to stop operations later this afternoon but will return tomorrow morning to monitor the fire.
The fire has covered a 400 hectare area and has damaged a Department of Conservation Hut at Goose Flat, where eight people had to be airlifted out. Three others who were at the hut were left to raft out down the Clarence River.
