As Vanuatu is nearing Monday's presidential election, the Malvatumauri National Council of Chiefs has called for electoral college to look beyond the legacy of Father Baldwin Lonsdale, who died this month.
Thirty-five candidates, including two women, are being vetted by the electoral office for Monday's election.
The Council's president Chief Tirvakavat Seni Mao Tirsupe said he wanted a president with similar vision and character of leadership who made the nation his priority.
Chief Tirsupe said with Father Lonsdale Vanuatu lost a key leading figure that took Vanuatu to another level through his legacy in leadership.
The electoral commission will be announcing today the names of the candidates who will be contesting the presidential election on Monday 3 July.
